SOLIDARITY WITH CHARLOTTESVILLE
Aug 13, 2017
There was a horrific attack on those protesting bigotry and white supremacy in Charlottesville, VA when an individual ran their car into a crowd of people opposing a “Unite the Right” event in the city. While we, the left in Denver and our allies, are sickened by this act, we will not be intimidated. In fact, we stand more resolutely against these various nationalist and racist groups. We recognize that this violence is not just perpetuated by hateful individuals or organizations, but that they are the embodiment of a larger, systemic sickness. This violence was the result of anti-semitism, xenophobia, sexism, queerphobia, Capitalism and all other forms of oppressions as well. These are the tools that maintain social hierarchy and must all be rooted out for a more just world.
The people who were killed and injured in Charlottesville were standing up to White Supremacists, protecting their community. They showed courage and solidarity for those who are marginalized and oppressed.
We ask our fellow community members to stand with us on Aug 13th at 2pm in City Park (Solidarity With Charlottesville) and every day forward.
To join us to support our friends in Charlottesville and clearly show that acts like this, and white supremacy, will not be tolerated.
Our hearts go out to all who were affected by this tragedy.
